What a great decision. This unit is 18g stainless steel, compared to my old 20g Elkay. I ordered the optional stainless steel rack custom fit to match the sink size to help avoid scratching. I'm repair capable, but not professional, and was surprised how easy it was for me and my semi-pro hired worker to install. It looks great, is quiet enough for my needs, and no more large pans sticking half out of the sink bowl at wash time. Kohler products are quality and affordable, although I do think that the price of this item is pushing the upper limit of its value. I matched the sink with a high end Kraus faucet and I could not be happier. It accommodates the largest pots and pans as well as the grates on my range (which won't even fit in our dishwasher). It looks sleek and modern and it's made my life in the kitchen much easier. My husband had no problems installing it, although I should qualify this by mentioning that this Kohler Vault sink replaced our previous Kohler Verse sink, so it wasn't like we had to cut a new opening in the counter or make any tricky modifications. In terms of looks and functionality, I could not be happier. It rinses and drains fine and, yes, there is water spotting on the inside of the sink, which is only natural with stainless steel, but I just wipe it down with a dry towel or microfiber sponge and it looks like new. Be sure to get the stainless steel rack protector for the sink bottom, as stainless mars/scratches easily no matter how good the quality. We also had granite countertops that had been cut to fit this small sink. We talked to a contractor, who suggested we could fit a bigger sink, but that it should be a top-mount (since the granite would have to be re-cut in place and it would be way more difficult to do another undermount sink. I was not happy with the sinks I saw before this one. We consulted the granite fabricator, he said it would fit, and we went from there.The end result is like night and day. This sink is sleek and somewhat industrial looking and looks great in our kitchen. I love the depth of it, and that we can fit large platters and baking dishes in it to soak them. We also eventually purchased the Kohler Basin Rack for this sink and it works great as well. We couldn't be more pleased. |
