The new one broke the very same way in three months. I didn't buy a cheaper type of strainer because I wanted quality. Please do not buy this strainer: it has a serious design flaw. It looks great, but started to leak water down the drain after about 2 months of use: the sink drains in about 1 hour after filling. Within another month, it was no longer possible to fill the sink at all, as the water leaks out as fast as the faucet can fill it. Look very carefully at the pictures of this strainer, particularly the plunger-like stopper part at the bottom which seals the sink drain. See the little black line around the stopper? This is a black O-ring which fits into a shallow groove. This little thin O-ring is what seals the stopper into the sink drain basket to hold the water. After 2 months, the O-Ring on the Vibrant Brass Bronze strainer became loose, making the sink leak water down the drain.
